Powerful, efficient and reliable, the F40 combines the benefits of Yamaha’s Multi-Point Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) system, with a Micro-Processor Controlled System to deliver reliable turnkey hot and cold starting, improved fuel economy, incredible mid-range torque, lower emissions, and an overall smoother and quieter operation.
The compact 747cc 3-cylinder, marine engine delivers the optimal balance of power, torque and refinement for exceptional versatility in both forward or tiller handle control applications. The forward control option can be matched with digital gauges, including Yamaha's feature packed Command-Link system. While the optional Multi-Function Tiller Handle comes standard with trim, shift, and throttle controls, as well as ‘start-in-gear’ protection and warning horn alerts, all integrated into the ergonomic handle.

ECM Micro-Computer Control An advanced microprocessor Engine Control Module (ECM) receives inputs from six major sensors located throughout the engine. This information is used to ensure the engine runs at peak performance, by delivering the optimum fuel and air mixture to each combustion chamber.
Electronic Fuel Injection The Multi-Point Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) system, injects the right amount of fuel into the combustion chamber at the optimum timing. This system takes into account engine speed and load requirements to achieve maximum engine performance including ‘first-time, every-time’ hot and cold starting.
Fresh Water Flushing System Simply connect a hose to the easy access connector to flush salt and dirt from the outboard without having to run the engine. Flushing the engine after each use reduces corrosion and extends the engines life.
Long Intake Manifold The long intake manifold is designed to increase torque at low speeds for better acceleration and efficiency.
Long Span Mounting System The large rubber mounts and the long vertical length between the upper and lower mounts help to reduce engine vibration.
Mechanical Steering Control This engine is available as a mechanical forward-control option, suitable for center console and side console boats.
747cc 3-Cylinder Engine The six-valve, three-cylinder, single overhead camshaft marine engine delivers superior efficiency in the transfer of intake and exhaust gasses throughout the RPM range.
Power Trim and Tilt Yamaha’s push-button trim control makes engine trim and tilt adjustments quick, smooth and easy, across a wide trim range. The negative trim settings allow for improved acceleration and the ability to bring the boat onto the plane more quickly.
Variable Trolling Control Yamaha’s variable trolling control allows you to precisely adjust the engine’s idling speed from 650 to 900 RPM in 50 RPM increments. The ability to finely tune the trolling speed allows fisherman to perfect their lure presentation when chasing different species of fish.
